The Aurora Borealis is a wonderful feature of life in Northern Manitoba. Scientists tell us that charged particles from solar flares carried on solar winds interact with elements in our atmosphere — oxygen producing greens and reds and nitrogen producing blue. Indigenous elders tell us that the lights are the spirits of the ancestors dancing their way into the afterlife. If you whistle they will come closer but be careful because they might take you with them. I have gathered images of the various ways Lady Aurora presents herself in our region.
